Temperature effects on mechanical characteristics of clay soils

Abstract: Temperature effects on mechanical characteristics of clay soils are analyzed. Some problems are studied in detail, including the thermal consolidation problem, the temperature effects on permeability, thermal conductivity and thermal resistivity, thermal volume change of the clay-water system, etc. Particularly, the changes of pore pressure induced by temperature and the mechanisms of reversibility of the thermal volume change on various types of clay soils are analyzed. Besides, the thermal mechanical models for saturated clays are discussed simply.
