A new elastoplastic model for jointed rock

Abstract: A new elastoplastic model for jointed rock is presented. The structure is divided into block elements and fault elements, which are real joint elements or artificial fault elements. The basic unknown quantities are the rigid displacements and the average strains of the block elements. The constitutive laws of joint material and block material can be fully considered in the model. The cost of computation is low. It is a discontinuous element for displacement. The model is suited to numerical analysis of jointed rock.
