Study on characteristics of seismic depression of soft clay in Xiamen

Abstract: A series of seismic depression tests about the soft clay of Xiamen were conducted using dynamic cyclic triaxial apparatus. According the result of tests, a residual strain formula of the soft clay was established. The experimental results show that the dynamic pore water pressure rises much slowly. The structural characteristics of the soft clay is very strong. The residual strain of the soft clay is much affected by dynamic stress. When residual strain reaches 5% or so, the structure of the soft clay is damaged.
