Abstract: There are some special issues that cause difference to predict fluid flow in fractured vadose zone, including capillary flow, film flow, preferential flow and fracture-matrix interaction. Those issues can bring on notable unevenness of local velocity and flux in fractured vadose zone. The features of those issues are studied. In addition, alternative conceptual models for flow in fractured vadose zone, such as macroscale continuum models, high-resolution finite differences models, discrete fracture networks models, percolation models and weeps models, are discussed.

Key words: fractured vadose zone, film flow, preferential flow, conceptual models
