Triaxial tests on unsaturated expansive soils with different initial dry densities

Abstract: The structaral characteristics is of great importance to unsaturated soils; soils compacted with different initial dry densities have different structural characteristics. A series of triaxial tests were undertaken on a remolded unsaturated expansive soil. It appears that the strength of unsaturated soils increases with net confining pressure and suction, but the tendency to dilate diminishes with them. Soils with higher initial dry density have higher strength and more tendency to dilate when shearing.
