Abstract: Various typical results are introduced of in-situ stress measurements by overcoming tests during last two decades. The stress cases could be divided into three types: in-situ stress in lower strength rock; in-situ stress in higher strength rocks; in-situ stress in high stress region. The involved rock masses were variety of Sedimentary rock, Igneous rock, and Metamorphic rock with yang’s modulus from 1 to 105GPa. The deepest borehole used for stress release was 90.7 m. Some general laws of initial stress in the shallow earth crust were drawn from the above results. The relationship between initial stress and yang’s modulus of rocks and the influence of initial stresses on rock engineering are discussed.
