Abstract: In order to explore the influence of stress and temperature on the compliance characteristics of anelastic strain recovery (ASR) method, this study used granite specimens to carry out creep and post-creep unloading experiments. The results show that, under a stress level ranging from 40% to 50% of the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), the rock predominantly undergoes viscoelastic deformation, with a notable recovery of anelastic strain. At stress levels between 60% and 70% UCS, the deformation of the rock is primarily characterized by a combination of viscoelastic and plastic deformation, resulting in a relatively diminished recovery of anelastic strain. As the stress level escalates, the compliance ratio gradually increases, while both types of compliance initially rise and subsequently decline. Furthermore, an elevation in temperature leads to an increase in both the recovery strain and compliance of the rock. Within the moderate to low temperature range of 25–200 °C, the compliance ratio increases with rising temperature, whereas it decreases within the high temperature range of 300–500 °C. This phenomenon arises because varying temperatures exert distinct effects on the shear. The findings of this study offer an experimental foundation for the judicious selection of the compliance in ASR method.
