Abstract: Based on the assumption that all the variables are invariant in circular direction but can vary in the other two directions, FEM formulations are developed with the incremental unknowns for the coupled liquid-solid problem of axisymmetric geotechnical structure due to multi-directional imposed load. In the analysis, the medium is regarded as continuous, anisotropic, saturated, and it is assumed that small deformation occurs and either Darcy’s law or effective stress principle holds true. Finally, a FEM simulation of the consolidated undrained triaxial compression test for a saturated axisymmetric sample are performed which can prove the present method true.
