Analysis of one-dimensional consolidation behavior of soils under low-frequency cyclic loading

Abstract: An analytical solution to one-dimensional consolidation problem under low-frequency trapezoidal cyclic loading is presented. Based on the solution, the consolidation behavior under the cyclic loading and its influential factors are investigated; and the variation rules of the average consolidation degree and the effective stress with the loading are discussed. Moreover, the principle of variation of the maximum and minimum value of effective stress in soil with the loading is analyzed. It is shown that the development of effective stress is not synchronously with the variation of loading but is in a delayed way.
