Application of coupled element model to simulating smear layer

Abstract: Based on considering the effect of smear layer, 6-node constant thickness contact interface elements coupled with 4-node isoparametric elements are used to simulate the smear layer of drain wells. A relevant program is made to analyse two practical examples. The result is verified to be reasonable. It is shown that the coupled element model is effective and can be used in numerical analysis in engineering practice.
