Laboratory study of casing strength under nonuniform load

Abstract: Most of the casing failure in salt bed are due to the nonuniform additional collapse load caused by salt creep. But there are still no any comprehensive strength design methods for casing under nonuniform load. Based on the full-scale casing strength test under nonuniform load, this paper analyzes the strength characteristics of the casing under nonuniform load and suggests that the equivalent failure load and the ratio of minor axis and major axis can be used to quantitatively describe the nonuniform load. The casing strength design charts presented by this paper can be used to check the safety of the casing in salt bed or help perform casing strength design when the load is known. The experiment results demonstrated that the strength of the casing under nonuniform load is 8 to 21 times lower than that under uniform load.
