Abstract: Intermittent joints are important factors affecting stability of surrounding rockmass. In order to reflect their influence, based on large-sized underground chambers of Ertan Hydropower Project, an interface model is established to simulate mechanical effect of intermittent joints. Taking into account intermittent joint action or not, we have carried out numerical computation analysis for the main opening under various geostress and got some changing laws of displacement field and plastic zone around opening, which provide some useful reference for stability analysis of large sized underground engineering.

Key words: intermittent joint, interface model, stability of surrounding rockmass, numerical computation
