A BTW approach to damage and fracture of rock

Abstract: During loading process, deformation of rock will come into an unstable stage if the load is above a critical value. That is, the failure will evolve continuously under constant load. An ‘avalanche’ phenomenon appears in the failure process of rock. Based on SOC theory and BTW model, the damage evolvement and crack propagation rate are studied on instability and failure of rock. This presents a new approach to research the mesoscope evolvement law of rock failure.
