Numerical simulation of thermal stress for reflective crack of asphalt pavement

Abstract: Based on theory of visco-elasticity and heat transfer, the stress of reflective crack under the thermal variation is studied by finite element simulation. The influence of variation stress fields and road design parameters on the thermal stress of the crack is discussed. It can be show that the surface stress near the crack is larger than the tensile strength of the asphalt, which leads to the crack propagation. The scheme of crack prevention, which uses the polyfibre geogrid, is put forward. Numerical results show that the validity of the present scheme.
