Stability Study of Abutment of Tianfumiao Arch Dam
Xu Dong jun; Guo Jian yang
. 1984, 5 (2):  1-19.
Abstract ( 659 )   PDF (2487KB) ( 231 )
In this paper the method and procedure of stability study of the abutment of Tianfumiao arch dam is introduced and the corresponding reinforcement measures are suggested. Based on detailed investigation of engineering geology and hydro-geology, various possible mechanisms of unstability are analysed and different sliding boundary conditions are combined, shear strength and deformation modulus and various geological structural planes forming the boundary conditions are determined with both in site and lab mechanical tests on rock, distributions of stress strain and fracture zone are obtained after 3-dimensional elastic finite element analysis so as to cheek the reasonability of unstability mechanism and boundary conditions, safety factor of stability under combined conditions of various loads and boundaries is computed by means of ultimate equilibrium method for rigid body, and finally, effective reinforcement measures are suggested with respect to the most unstable boundary condition and the main factors governing stability. Also, the criteria of selecting value of shear strength of rock mass and various weak planes, principle of using test data, the comprehensive shear strength problems on heterogeneoue structural plane and combined structural plane are discussed.

Conductivity Change of Soil under Creep for Opening System
Cheng Chang bing; Xu Chang wei
. 1984, 5 (2):  21-25.
Abstract ( 608 )   PDF (382KB) ( 249 )
Conductivity of soil examples under their creep for opening system is determined with physico chemical experiments. The result shows that conductivity changes along with the soil creep. This demonstrates that not only soil structure changes under creep, but also its physico chemical behavior changes corresponding.

The Behaviour of Weak Intercalations Compositions of Matter at Gezhouba Dam
Tan Luorong
. 1984, 5 (2):  27-34.
Abstract ( 647 )   PDF (635KB) ( 297 )
In the base rock of the Gezhouba Dam between sandstones, and siltstones there are A number of weak intercalations consisting of claystones, silty-claystones, and their argillitgation intercalation with different thickness and behavior. Base on the results of the Quantitatire analyses of the mineral compositions and some data of grani size analysis on some representative interactions, the relation between the composition of weak intercalation, especially hydrophilic clay mineral composition, and the formation of argilligation intercalations is described and researched.

The Study of Physico-Chemical Mechanical Characteristics for Mudstone of Shigu Coal Mine
Luo Hong xi; Xu Chang wei
. 1984, 5 (2):  35-46.
Abstract ( 640 )   PDF (1373KB) ( 389 )
In this paper, mineral composition , physico-mechanical properties, physico-chemical parameters, cement materials and microstructure of three typical mudstones from Shigu coal mine in Guangdong province measured are analysed in this paper, and from the point of view of physico-chemistry and mechanics, the effect of water quality change, loss of water content and microstructureal damage on swelling of mudstone is investigated, The result indicates that the clay mineral of mudstone mainly consists of kaolinite and elite, its swelling pressure is 2~5kg/cm2 and induced swelling pressure and the effect of swelling capacity on physico-chemical and mechanical factors are attributable to high clay content, fine clay aggregate, poor crystal, rarely cement materials and dense microstructure.

Secondary Electron Image Resolution of DX-5 Scanning Microscopy Made in China and Its Application
Ye Xianxian
. 1984, 5 (2):  53-62.
Abstract ( 688 )   PDF (3533KB) ( 282 )
Described in this paper theoretical limit on resolution of optical microscope , transmission microscope and scanning microscope. Discussed conditions optimum resolution, that obtained from DX-5 scanning electron microscope. The optimum resolution is DX-5 scanning electron microscope is 60? (see Fig. 1), its magnification is 10×~100000× (see Fig.3.4). The microscope of clay mineral, marine soils from the south China Sea, and gysum-diatomite have been studied with DX-5 scanning electron microscope. The results obtained from our research show that DX-5 scanning electron microscope is valid for the research of the microstrurect of soils in rock and soil mechanics.

Self-controlled Soil Fatigue-shear Apparatus
Li Keri
. 1984, 5 (2):  67-73.
Abstract ( 427 )   PDF (782KB) ( 221 )
This apparatus can be used for direct rapid shear tests, relexation rheological tests, fatigue shear test, single impulse test etc., the movement of its shear box is automatically controlled by the step motor FBM-3D-009 of which the rare is divided into two ranges:1~90 and 110~360 circles per min, each being adjusted step by step. The adjustment of the shear displacement with precision up to ±0.01mm is reached by regulating distance between the two light-sensitive diodes. The shearing times within 1~9999 can be predetermined and displayed on digitrons one by one. If the shearing times are the same at the predetermined, shearing will stop automatically. Besides, the apparatus can be operated manually. In testing the shear displacement and the shear stresses are recorded automatically by means of the end instruments and the recording meter.
