Analysis of 3-D Biot consolidation FEM of expressway’s soft foundation improved by vacuum combined surcharge preloading

Abstract: According to the deformation character of expressway foundations, a 3-D Biot consolidation FEM model of soft foundation improved by vacuum combined surcharge preloading method, is proposed. This model can discretise PVD element as its actual factor to avoid the problem of PVD’s simulation in 2-D FEM. A practical engineering of vacuum combined surcharge preloading is computed and analyzed; and the results are satisfied.
