Analysis of forming reason of mud breakout in Tong-Yu tunnel

Abstract: The water stratum, distributing around the Tong-Yu Tunnel location, is eroded carbonate rock belong sea faces aggradations. A mud breakout was occurring at K21+780, with 940-meter depth of rock cover, in Feb 22th, 2004, in Tong-Yu Tunnel. According to the 3D-σsoftware analysis, the stress in the surrounding rock at K21+780 are proved, as well as the breakage region. Based on the conclusion of 3D-σsoftware analysis, combining with the engineering geology and construction technique, the forming reason of mud breakout in tunnel are discovered.
