Abstract: The fundamental ideas and assumptions and their physical interpretations of subloading surface theory are presented. In order to describe the Massing effect and ratcheting effect of soils under cyclic loading, the conventional ellipse-parabola two-surface model is extended to the subloading surface cyclic plastic model by incorporating the Generalized plasticity and subloading surface theory. It is concluded that the model is capable of describing the deformation behavior of soil under monotonic and cyclic loading.

Key words: Generalized plasticity, subloading surface, cyclic plasticity, constitutive model
