Numerical analysis of upwarping deformation of existing tunnels under a new tunnel’s excavation

Abstract: The protection of the Longpan Tunnel’s excavation which are right beyond two existing shield tunnels of Nanjing No.1 subway is presented. Corresponding to unstabilizing condition and stabilizing condition with high-pressure chemical churning piles, the existing shield tunnel’s upwarping deformation during the excavation is analyzed with ANSYS software of 3-D elasto-plastic finite element method. It is observed that the tunnel’s upwarping deformations were too great without stabilizing and are safet with stabilizing. The calculated results are compared with the in-situ observation data.
