Research on calculation model for stability evaluation of rainfall-induced shallow landslides

Abstract: Landslides are common geological hazard problems in China; many facts indicate that the rainfall is the main and common environmental factor controlling the instability of slope and triggering shallow landslides. In order to do better research on rainfall-induced shallow landslides, Mein-Larson model is developed based on VG model and modified Green-Ampt infiltration model; then combined with infinite slope stability model, a simplified calculation model is proposed for analyzing rainfall-induced shallow landslides. Compared with the simplified calculation model proposed before, the effect of slope and the characteristics of unsaturated soil are taken into account in this model; it can be used for analyzing rainfall-induced shallow landslides under two different rainfall patterns; and it has a wider range of applications. Compared with the results of FEM, conclusions can be drawn as follows: the results of the calculation model agree with that of FEM; and the safety factor is somewhat safe; so it can be used for analyzing rainfall-induced shallow landslides; the calculation model has simple formula, higher computational efficiency.
