Abstract: Based on the theory of Particle Flow Code (PFC), the biaxial test and shear-band evolution of sand are simulated . The macro stress-strain relation of sand is reproduced by PFC model. The variation rules of macro properties of the sand sample with micro parameters, such as particle size and friction coefficient of particle, are studied. The results of sand shear-band in lab test are compared with PFC model, and the efffect of micro parameters, such as particle size, stiffness and friction coefficient, to the formation and extension process of the shear-band is analyzed. It is shown that the mechanism of sand shear-band can be simulated perfectly by PFC model.

Key words: sand, mesomechanics, Particle Flow Code (PFC), stress-strain relation, shear-band
