Finite element analysis of behaviors of soil-nailing wall

Abstract: Soil-nailing walls are main support structures in silty and clay soils. Calculated modes interacted between soils, shot crete layers and soil nail are set up on the basis of ABAQUS FEM software by employing soil constitutive model of Mohr-Coulomb and compact pattern of small slip. Distribution patterns and regularities of horizontal displacements of soils and shotcrete layers, shotcrete layer pressures and axial forces are explored. The results show the maximum value of soil displacements is at or near top of walls. Horizontal displacement of pit bottom decreases from pit base to middle pit, and trends to be a fixed value gradually. Axial forces reach maximum in the middle of the nails, and shotcrete layer pressure is much smaller than that of axial nail value. The pressures of the shotcrete layers of soil-nailing walls increase with depth, reach the maximum values, and then decrease afterward. The pressure is added to shotcrete layers with each excavation, and the position of the maximum value moves downward gradually.
