Interaction between soil mass and bucket foundation in suction sinking process of single bucket

Abstract: The interaction between the soil mass and bucket foundation during the sinking process of a single bucket driven by negative pressure is analyzed. The differential equation for the stress transfer in the sinking process of a bucket is established. The relation of the greatest sinking depth of the bucket by itself weight with the weight of bucket, the vertical load, the geometric parameters of the bucket, and the mechanical properties as well as the frictional strength between soil and bucket is obtained. The effect of percolation during the sinking process is also considered, and the sinking depth and the negative pressure required are determined.
